Today was no ordinary day at SHAD Mount Allison, today was business pitch day! We started off the day with breakfast at Jennings-there were potatoes of course. SHADs then jumped right into our design and entrepreneurship (DE) projects and got to practice our final pitches in front of members of our SHAD Mount Allison staff team. We received some feedback and worked hard to polish our final presentations.
After lunch, SHADs got dressed in business formal and headed over to the Dunn building to meet the judges and start pitching our products. The theme this year was ‘How can we help Canadians impactfully reduce their waste?’ As each DE group pitched their ideas, the other SHADs showed their support by watching the presentations through a livestream in a nearby lecture hall. Four hours later, all groups had pitched and the SHADs were hungry. Everyone walked down the street to a restaurant called Joey’s, and had a delicious pasta meal to celebrate the successes of the business pitches.
When SHADs got back to Bennett House the group split into two groups and half did a tour of the tunnels that run underneath Mount Allison. We learned about how the tunnels supply energy to all parts of the campus and how the system operates.
The other half made delicious ice cream using milk, sugar, salt and ice. Each group got to take turns doing both activities, and it was surely a blast!
Before ending off the night with evening announcements, we listened to some unique SHAD speaks presentations. With a late curfew that night, SHADs had the chance to deet (if you know, you know.)
